Im Gegenteil: er ist leidenschaftlicher „Tabletop Wargamer“. Ein Hobby, das weit mehr ist als nur ein Spiel. Es ist eine Schule für Geduld, Disziplin und präzise Analysen. Schon mit fünf Jahren beobachtete Paul Elston fasziniert die Spielzüge der Älteren. Beim Tabletop werden Armeen aus winzigen Figuren auf einem Spielfeld koordiniert. „Im Support habe ich klare Regeln, wie Systeme operieren. Missachtet man sie, bleibt das Ergebnis aus“, erklärt er. Diese Logik überträgt er eins zu eins auf seine Miniaturen: Wer beim Zusammenbau den zweiten Schritt vor dem ersten macht, scheitert an der Statik. Diese Disziplin, komplexe Herausforderungen in logische Einzelschritte zu zerlegen, ist für ihn im Berufsalltag zur zweiten Natur geworden. Besonders beeindruckend ist sein Auge für Details. In eine einzige Figur investiert er teilweise über 80 Stunden reine Arbeitszeit. Ob beim 3D-Druck seiner Figuren oder bei der akribischen Fehlersuche in Kundensystemen, er strebt nach Ergebnissen, auf die er stolz sein kann. „Ich möchte eine Aufgabe so abschließen, dass sie wirklich gelöst ist und man mit Freude auf das Resultat blickt.“ Wenn es im Support einmal hektisch wird oder eine Lösung nicht sofort greift, hilft ihm die Erfahrung aus seinen Spielen. Er weiß, dass nicht jeder „Spielzug“ sofort zum Ziel führt. Anstatt in Stress zu verfallen, setzt er auf Analyse. Diese Ruhe, die er am Spieltisch erlernt hat, macht ihn zu einer wichtigen Stütze in unserem Team. PAUL ELSTON’S WORLD OF MINIATURES... In tabletop wargaming, armies of tiny figures are coordinated on a playing field. “In Technical Support, I have clear rules about how systems operate. If you disregard them, you won’t get the desired result,” he explains. He applies this logic one-to-one to his miniatures: If you put the second step before the first when assembling them, the statics will fail. This discipline of breaking down complex challenges into logical individual steps has become second nature to him in his everyday work. His eye for detail is particularly impressive. He sometimes invests over 80 hours of pure working time in a single figure. Whether 3D printing his figures or meticulously troubleshooting customer systems, he strives for results he can be proud of. “I want to complete a task in such a way that it is truly solved and you can look at the result with joy.” When things get hectic in support or a solution does not work right away, his gaming experience helps him. He knows that not every “move” leads to the goal immediately. Instead of getting stressed out, he relies on analysis.
