5 ...VERSTÄRKEN SIE DAS ISGUS TEAM! OUR IT MANAGER Portrait of Joachim JÜrgensen How long have you been working for ISGUS and how did you come to join the company? It all began in 1985 when Joachim Jürgensen started his career with an apprenticeship as a precision engineer at ISGUS. It was an era of gears, drives, and physical precision. That he is now – four decades later – in charge of the company’s digital infrastructure is primarily due to his personal curiosity and the ability of ISGUS to adapt and evolve over time. “ISGUS always gave me the opportunity for personal development,” he recalls. His path took him from the workbench to the position of foreman in the gear cutting and milling department, and on to technical sales. As a service technician and dealer support representative, he got to know the needs of customers on site. It was this valuable experience he ultimately drew upon when setting up a completely new department in 2003. By establishing the IT department, he laid the foundations for the company’s current system landscape. At present, one of his major projects involves the implementation of a proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) system. Which IT project has brought ISGUS the most added value in recent years? Mr. Jürgensen didn’t have to think twice: the development of our own cloud infrastructure. What began as a visionary project in 2019 has become a backbone for our customers. Over 2,000 companies meanwhile rely on the ISGUS Cloud. The fact that data of over 500,000 employees is processed in the ISGUS data centre underscores the enormous responsibility of the IT department and our SaaS team. In times of skilled labour shortages, this service is an unbeatable added value, as ISGUS takes over the management of the highly complex data centres, freeing up customers to focus on their core business. If you had to give our employees one piece of advice from an IT perspective, what would it be? Joachim Jürgensen’s message to the team is clear: IT systems are indispensable today, yet they are often used only superficially, leaving significant potential untapped. “Many things are still done exactly as they used to be because there is a lack of curiosity to really get to grips with new applications,” he states. His advice: Successful digitalization requires a fundamental willingness to change. It is not enough to have digital tools at your disposal; you must be willing to actively learn how to use them and let go of old processes. His own career is the best example of this: “If I had remained at the level of knowledge acquired as a precision mechanic, my services would probably be no longer required today ... at least at ISGUS.” As IT manager, what are your thoughts on AI and what opportunities and risks do you see for ISGUS? Joachim Jürgensen quotes about the trending topic of artificial intelligence: “It depends on what you make of it.” While AI offers immense opportunities, he also sees the risks. AI already makes life easier when writing emails or programming. “In the future, no one will have to tediously design parameters for daily patterns or workflows themselves,” he predicts. For ISGUS, this means that we are consistently driving our solutions toward an intelligent, user-centric future.
